Two houses a total loss after multiple-alarm fire on Wilson Street

Hamilton firefighters battled a multiple-alarm fire that destroyed two houses onWilson Street Monday evening.

When crews arrived they found a vacant one-and-a-half storeyhouse fully-engulfed in flames, according to the department.

"The fire spread quickly to the adjoining house and the decision was made to turn to a defensive strategy,"stated a spokesperson in an email to CBC who said the alarm was upgraded to bring morefirefighters to the scene.

Photos the department shared on Twitter showed an aerial attack,two heavily-damaged homes and clouds of billowing smoke.

No injuries were reported.

A damage estimate was not immediately available, but the department said both buildingsare considered a total loss.

The fire was under control around 9 p.m.

Crews are expected toremain on scene throughout the night to extinguish hot spots.
