Skydiver seriously injured after collision with tree

A woman suffered serious injuries after she crashed into a tree while skydiving in Flamborough.

Paramedics were called to Skydive SWOOP on Highway 5 just before 11:20 a.m. Wednesday, according to EMS superintendent Dave Thompson.

"Reports are that the chute opened OK, but when she got close to the ground she had an impact with a tree," he explained.

An off-duty paramedic was on sceneat the time and helped the woman and called 911, he added.

The woman was a skydiving student who missed her target and ended up hitting the tree about 30 feet above the ground, said Const. Jerome Stewart.She ended landing in a grassy area.

The woman was taken to a local hospitalwith serious injuries to her lower body, including her back, limbs and pelvis, said Thompson.

The skydiving centre did not immediately respond to a callasking for comment on the incident.
