Gunshots rang out in Central Hamilton on Sunday night, police say now, investigators are trying to track down those responsible for the city's fourth shooting incident this year.

It happened just after 7 p.m., in the area of Wentworth Street North and Barton Street east.

Police would not specify any exact evidence they found there, but Const. Jerome Stewart told CBC News that officers "have recovered evidence to support a shooting incident occurred."

According to a news release, the people involved in the incident had taken off before police got there.

"At this time police have no evidence to support anyone was injured during this incident," the news release reads. "Police believe this to be targeted."

Investigators are now asking any witnesses with information to come forward.
