Police looking for suspects in 4 weekend robberies on the Mountain

There have been four robberies at businesses on the Mountain this weekend, and police are searching for suspects.

A man produced a knife on Fridayand demanded cash from a convenience store cashier on Fennell Avenue, opening the till himself and grabbing cash before fleeing on foot, said Hamilton police Staff Sgt. Chris Hastings.

He's described as a white man, in his early-to-mid 30s, with a thin build, wearing a blue jacket, sunglasses and a baseball hat.

Police are also investigating three robberies that took place Saturday evening and overnight.

Narcotics taken from Shoppers

Around 8:45 p.m. Saturday, a man went into Shoppers Drug Mart on Garth Street and demanded narcotics, including oxycontin from the pharmacy, Hastings said. He didn't show or indicate that he had a weapon and he was last seen on foot.

The suspect in that robbery is described as a white man, about 6'0"tall, wearing a black jacket, red pants, a black scarf covering his face and he was carrying a red-and-white Goodlife Fitness gym bag.

Cash taken from Gino's Pizza

Then around 11 p.m., a white man walked into Gino's Pizza on Mall Road, pulled out a knife and leaned over the counter and took cash out of the till, Hastings said. He's described as about 5'6" tall, thin build, with dirty blonde hair just longer than his ears.

Cigarettes taken from Mac's

And finally around 2:45 a.m., a man walked into a Mac's convenience store on York Road in Dundas, asked for cigarettes and then pulled out a knife. He left with some cigarettes.

He's described as a white man, about 5'5" tall, between about 35 and 45 years old, with an athletic build.

But more memorably, Hastings said, the suspect is described as wearing a "big ridiculous Halloween wig" resemblingsinger Dolly Parton's hairstyle, a white tank top, a white bra and a black miniskirt.

He wasn't seen wearing shoes, just black tube socks. He was last seen on foot.

Police don't believe the Saturday incidents are connected. But Hastings noted similarities in the method of the suspect or suspects taking the money from the till in the robbery on Friday night and the Gino's Pizza one Saturday.
