A Hamilton teen is facing assault charges after a student was stabbed on a school bus Wednesday afternoon.

Police were called to St. Thomas More school around 3 p.m.

According to investigators, a 16-year-old teen stabbed a 17-year-old "for reasons unknown."

The victim was taken to hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The 16-year-old was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon. He was also found to be breaching a condition on a previous court order to not carry any weapons.

He was held for a bail hearing.

"The Hamilton Police Service continues to work in partnership within local area schools and is reminding students to immediately report any incidents of violence to staff or to the police," police said in a news release.
