Kevin Smith sets porn star comedy in Brantford, Ont.

Indie filmmaker Kevin Smiths next project, Prons, is a comedy about a famous porn star who leaves the industry to return to his hometown of Brantford, Ont. and the Clerks director says he wants to film on-location.

Indie filmmaker Kevin Smiths next project, Prons, is a comedy about a famous porn star who leaves the industry to return to his hometown of Brantford, Ont. and the Clerks director says he wants to film on-location.

My love affair with Canada continues, Smith said when he announced the project Tuesday. The L.A.-based director previously starred in and produced a movie review web series calledSpoilersfor Canada's The Comedy Network.

This time around, Smith is teaming up with writer and Brantford native Aaron Martin (Saving Hope) to develop Prons for pay-TV channel The Movie Network.

When prompted by a fan who tweeted, As a native of Brantford, please tell me Prons will be shot in Brantford, Smith replied, That's the aim!

Sparked by Smiths Prons announcement, online reaction from Brantford residents was overwhelmingly positive, ranging from excitement that their hometown is getting a moment in the spotlightto offers to host Smith and his crew in peoples homes should they need a place to crash.

We've teamed up with Comedy who made Season 2 of Spoilers and Noreen Halpern (my Hit Somebody producer to tell the story of a different kind of homecoming, Smith said.

There is no word yet on aproduction schedule or who will play the role of the Brantford-bred porn star.

The horror-comedy Tusk, written by Smith and starring Haley Joel Osment, will be playing at Midnight Madness at the Toronto International Film Festivalin September.
