Hamilton Daystarter: Everything you need to know Friday

Snow in Hamilton. It's back, folks. Leave a bit of extra time to clean off your car this morning before you leave the house. Here's all the traffic, weather and news you'll need for your Friday morning.

Snow in Hamilton. It's back, folks. Leave a bit of extra time to clean off your car this morning before you leave the house.

Depending on where you are, there could be about 2-3 cm on the ground or the snow could be falling slow and steady right now. Also leave a bit of extra time on the roads.

This is appropriate for a Friday. January 17 is national Ditch Your New Year's Resolution Day. So perhaps just put those aside this evening, enjoy the weekend, and get back to your regime by Monday. It is, after all, TGIF.

No issues to report so far on GO Transit this morning.

At 9 a.m.:

QEW Toronto-bound is still slow along that stretch between Burlington and Oakville.

At 8 a.m.:

A single car collision on the QEW Toronto-bound at Fruitland Road. No injuries.

We're starting to see some back-up on the QEW between Walkers Line and Bronte Road Toronto-bound. The 403 immediately after the York Blvd. on-ramp is also slow.

In town, King Street is slow between James and Queen.

At 7:30 a.m.:

Despite the overnight snowfall, the local highways are moving well this hour.

In town, Aberdeen is starting to get a bit heavy towards the 403.

Victoria Avenue from King Street up to Barton is slow this hour. At the base of the Jolley Cut, John Street is slow heading into the lower city.

It feels like -8 C to start your morning with the wind chill, - 1 C without.

Expect a high of 0 C later today with periods of snowfall ending by the afternoon. That temperature means most of the snow will melt.

Tonight, flurries starting again and a low of -9 C.

Here's your weekend weather:

The temperature will drop Saturday with a high of -6 C. We might see some flurries as well.

Sunday, a high of -4 C and low of -8 C. Cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of flurries.

A new report shows construction is boosting Hamilton's economy. The local Chamber of Commerce, along with Central 1 Credit Union and the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, released the 2014 economic outlook for Hamilton and the Niagara region. 2013 saw major projects like the Pan Am Stadium, McMaster's new downtown health science facility and the new public school board building adding construction jobs. According to the city's economic development department, construction won't let up in 2014. Fifteen new condo projects are on tap for this year, said EcDEv head Neil Everson.

For the day's national and world headlines, give CBC's AM Express a listen:
