Hamilton reports 10 new cases of COVID-19, totaling 30 active infections

Hamilton's department of public health reportedan increase of 10 cases of COVID-19 on Monday.

The city currently has a total of 30 active infections up from 22 on Friday. Two people have recovered since last week.

The slight uptick in cases comes as city councillors are expected to vote on theextension of a physical distancing bylaw that expired on July 24.

Local enforcement officers and police havecharged 133 people so far under the old bylaw, which states that thecity can fine an individual as much as $10,000 on first conviction, and $25,000 for subsequent convictions.

There are now a total of 918 cases of the novel coronavirusin Hamilton, and 843 people have recovered. There have been 45 deaths as a result of the disease.

Here is a breakdown of regional cases:

Brant

There are currently eight people in Brant with COVID-19 right now. One of those people is in hospital and seven are at home.

The area has confirmed a total of 149 cases an increase of one since Friday.Of those cases, 137 people have recovered. There have been four deaths.

Haldimand-Norfolk

The region has 29 active cases, up from 28 on Friday.

A total of 466 people have tested positive in the area, and 405 people have recovered. There have been 32 deaths.

Halton

An increase of one case from Friday puts Halton's active infections at 21.

In total, the region has confirmed 926 cases of COVID-19, and 880 people have recovered from the disease. The death toll stands at 25.

Burlington's number of active cases remains at four,unchanged from Friday. There have been 181 recoveries out of 192 total cases. Seven people have died.

Niagara

The number of active cases in Niagara has dropped to 46, down from 60 on Friday.

The region's total number of COVID-19 cases is now at 901, an uptick of 15 from last week. Deaths remain at 64, while recoveries have risen to791.
