1 dead, 2 revived after 3 suspected fentanyl overdoses in just 12 hours: OPP

Provincial police in Norfolk County are warning residents about the dangers offentanylafter three investigations into suspected overdoses in just 12 hours ended with two people revived and one dead.

In amedia release dated May 1 the service describes overdoses as a "serious issue" in the county and cautions even a small amount of the drug can be deadly.

The release comes after a37-year-old waspronounced dead of a suspected overdose, according to the OPP.

Aperson in Simcoe and one in Port Dover who are also believed to have overdosed survived after paramedics administerednaloxone, say police.

"Fentanyl is a highly dangerous, tasteless, odourless substance that can be lethal in very small amounts," reads the release."It can be altered to any colour and added to other illicit drugs."

The OPP reminds residents it supportsCanada's Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act that protects anyone at the scene of an overdose from charges for simple drug possession.

Police are also asking anyone looking for mental health and addiction support to contact the county health unit or their health-care provider.
