65-year-old man dead after collision involving mobility scooter and dump truck

Barton Street has been shut down between Ferguson Street North and Victoria Avenue North. Wellington is closed from Birge Street and Cannon Street East.

A 65-year-old man is dead, Hamilton police say, after a collision involving a mobility scooter and a dump truck.

Police were called to the intersection of Barton Street North and Wellington Street North just after 8 a.m. Thursday.

The victim was a pedestrian who was using an electric scooter, according to investigators.

He was transported to hospital where he was later pronounced dead, said Const. Krista-Lee Ernst.

The driver of the dump truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with police, she said.

Forensic services and the collision reconstruction unit are investigating and interviewing witnesses.

Ernst said the collision happened on the south side of the intersection, butthe investigation is in its early stages and the specifics of what happened have not been determined.

Barton has been shut down between Ferguson Street North and Victoria Avenue North. Wellington is closed from Birge Street and Cannon Street East.
