277 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Hamilton over the weekend

Hamilton reported 125 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, following 152 that were announced the day before, fora total of 277 new cases over the weekend.

One more person who tested positive for the virus has died, bringing that total to 332 for the city.

The local cases are part of4,456 recorded in Ontario on Sunday a new record in the province.

Hamilton has logged 14,104 cases over the course of the pandemic. Of those, 938 are active as of Sunday, while just over 89 per cent are resolved.

The seven-day average for new cases in Hamilton is 117.

The most-recent statistics for COVID-19 cases at area hospitals were shared on Friday.

At that time there were 65 patients with the virus being cared for by Hamilton Health Sciences(HHS) and 28 physicians and staff members who had tested positive.

St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton had 35 patients with COVID-19 and three staff members or physicians.

The cases at HHSaccounted for 94 per cent of the hospital's funded adult acute care capacity, and 92 per cent at St. Joe's.

Forty-eight outbreaks are active.

Mayorgets vaccinated

Vaccinations are ongoing in the city, including for Mayor Fred Eisenberger who received his first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech shotat the FirstOntario Centre Sunday morning.

The mayor'swife, Diane, was also vaccinated at the Hamilton Health Sciences site today, according to a media release.

"I strongly encourage everyone in our community to roll up their sleeve and book a vaccine appointment as soon as they are eligible," Eisenberger stated in the release, adding everyone, including those who have received a shot, must continue to follow public health advice to stop the spread of the virus.

"The best community service anyone could do for their family, friends and neighbours is to get vaccinated when you are eligible."

Brant

Twenty-one more cases were added in Brant and BrantfordSunday, for a total of 2,066 confirmed cases so far.

Eight people who have the virus are in hospital, while 180 cases are active and 1,872 are resolved.

Fourteen people who tested positive for COVID-19 have died.

The Brant County Health Unit (BCHU)declared an outbreak at the Pizzaville location on Colborne Street in Brantford Sunday after six staff members contracted the virus.

The BCHU said its investigation found customers were "low risk" for infection. Still, they're asking anyone who visited the store between March 26 and 28 and is concerned about possible exposure, or has symptoms, to contact theBrant Community Healthcare Systemto arrange testing.

The staff members are isolating, and the store will remain open.

Brant has administered 33,455 doses of COVID-19 vaccine so far.

Six Nations

As of Friday, Six Nations of the Grand River had six active cases, with one person in hospital and 66 in self-isolation.

The community has recorded 443 cases, including 428 that are resolved.

Nine people have died.

A total of 2,119 people have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Haldimand-Norfolk

There are 152 active cases of COVID-19 in Haldimand-Norfolk.

The counties have seen 1,807 people test positive for the virus. Of those, 1,611 are recovered.

Thirty-nine deaths in the area are considered COVID-related.

Health and Social Services Haldimand-Norfolk is reporting 25,496 doses of vaccine have been administered.

Niagara

The Niagara Region added 149 new cases of the virus on Sunday.

There are 1,037 active cases in the area, which has seen 10,873 so far. Of those, 9,460 are resolved and 376 people have died.

Health officials in Niagara have administered 106,245 vaccine doses.

Halton

Halton saw 166 more cases of COVID-19 on Sunday.

The region has reported 12,240 cases, including 838 that are active and 11,200 that are resolved.

As of Sunday, 202 people who had the virus have died.

The area has recorded 1,487 cases of variants of concern.

There are no ongoing outbreaks in Halton, which had administered104, 297 vaccine doses as of Friday.
