Three panels of theClaremont Access retaining wall collapsed on Wednesday, according to the city.

Thedownbound lanes of theClaremont Access have been closed since Marchafter the city said a routine inspection found an "urgent erosion and slope stability concern."

The plan to remove 600 metres of the steel wall along the Mountain roadstarted this month.

The city saidStantec Consulting Limited has been retained to address the erosion and slope stability.

"There are no injuries to report and Stantec will continue to inspect the situation," the city said.

"The city also urges pedestrians and cyclists tofollow the signage displayed, warning there is no pedestrian access and to refrain from using the downbound lanes of the Claremont Access."

The work at the Claremont is set to takeabout three months to complete.
