Hamilton police search for 2 men in shooting death of 17-year-old Myah Larmond

Hamilton police continue to search for two men who were there, Wednesday morning,when17-year-old Myah Larmondwas shot to death.

Police sayfive people were together inside a home on St. Matthews Avenue around 4 a.m. on Wednesday for a social gathering when Larmondwas shot. She later died in hospital.

They're looking to speak with the two men they were initially searching for. Police say both are in their early 20s.One has short or buzzed brown hair, and the other has slightly longer brown hair.

Dt. Sgt. Steve Bereziukof the Hamilton police says they're "confident" that they'll be able to identify the men, but are asking them to proactively come forward by contacting investigators. Police aren't looking to speak with any other witnesses at this time.

Detectives have arrested and charged a 21-year-old man,Davonte Skye-Davis, withmanslaughter.The shooting, police said, involved "an element of carelessness and recklessness by the accused."

Bereziuksaid that thewords"carelessness" and "recklessness" were carefully chosen the word "accident," he said,isn't appropriate.

The gun from the shooting is still missing.Bereziuk says it's possible thatthe gun is still in the house, but neighbours are asked to keep an eye out for it in case it was tossed or hidden outside.

Forensics is still working through the home, and then investigators will search it more thoroughly.

Larmond's family is "strong," said Bereziuk, but the shooting was "traumatizing."

"They're trying to make sense of what happened and trying to heal at this point," he said.
