Wayne Gretzky statue soon to move to Rogers Place

The Wayne Gretzky statue that has stood outside Rexall Place since 1989 will soon find a new home.

The bronze statue has been outside of Rexall Place since 1989

The Wayne Gretzky statue will be cleaned and refurbished before being installed in front of the new Rogers Place arena.

Edmonton's most famous statue is on the move.

Since 1989, the three-metre bronze of Wayne Gretzky hoisting the Stanley Cup has welcomed hockey fans to Rexall Place.

Soon, it'll find its new home at Rogers Place, the new home of the Oilers.

Designed by sculptor John Weaver with bronzesmithDon Begg, the 950-lb. work of art will first go back to the studio on Thursdayfor cleaning and refurbishing.

After that, it willbe relocated to the sidewalk on 104th Avenue, just outside the Oilers Hall of Fame room at Rogers Place.

The unveiling date at its new location has not yet been announced.
