Vandals struck a southwest Edmonton church next to the site of a proposed residence for the homeless.

"No homeless," was spray painted on two exterior walls ofthe Holy Trinity Riverbend Anglican Church near 14th Avenue and 156th Street in Terwillegar.

The graffiti was discovered on the wallsat5 p.m. Wednesday. Police believe the church was spray paintedafter 4 p.m. Tuesday.

"This was obviously an act of somebody who was angry and frustrated with the proposal for their neighourhood - but not an appropriate expression," said Rev. Nick Trussell

The Jasper Place Health and Wellness Centre wants to build the 60-unit complex on land that belongs tothe church, but has met with resistance from area residents.

The centre insists itintends toconsult with area residents before the project proceeds.

Bryan Anderson, the city councillor for the area, declined to comment on the graffiti.
