Pomeberry Blend hepatitis warning issued

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning consumers not to eat a frozen berry product that might be linked to a number of infections by the hepatitis A virus.

Pomeberry Blend frozen berries are manufactured by Western Family and is distributed through Save-On-Foods and Overwaitea.

The product contains frozen pomegranate seeds, blueberries, strawberries and cherries.

As a precaution, anyone who has purchased Pomeberry Blend since November 2011 and has stored it in their refrigerator or freezer is advised to discard it.

The B.C. Centre for Disease Control is investigating eight cases of hepatitis A that have occurred over the past two months.

Five out of eight of the people involved are known to have consumed the Pomeberry product and an investigation is ongoing.

No cases have been identified in Alberta.

Anyone who has eaten the product and is not feeling well is advised to contact their doctor.
