Smoke advisory issued for southern and central Alberta

Expect a hazy day in Alberta - Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for much of the province due to smoke from wildfires in B.C.

Edmonton and Calgary will be hit, as well as national parks

Hold your breathEnvironment Canada has issued a special weather statement for much of the province due to smoke from wildfires in B.C.

The statement, which covers most of southern and central Alberta, warns that smoke from the fires is likely to "mix down" to the surface this afternoon.

"There is still uncertainty as to how concentrated the smoke will be at the surface, but there could be significant reductions in visibility and air quality," the statement reads.

The advisoryarea includes both Calgary and Edmonton, as well asRed Deer, Drumheller and Lethbridge.

Alberta Health Services hasissuedan air quality advisory forthe Calgary zone because of the smoke.

"In the current conditions, even healthy individuals may experience temporary irritation of eyes and throat, and possibly shortness of breath," AHS said in a statement.

Both Jasper and Banff national parks can also expect smoke.
