A sea of pink flooded into Churchill Square Sunday as thousands of people took part in the annual CIBC Run for the Cure to raise money for breast cancer research.

Ryan Hrycun, whose mother survived cancer, was one of more than 10,000 people to take part in the run.

He hopes to raise money to help others who are dealing with the same stress his family did when his mother got sick.

"I know it can have an effect on the person, as well as the family and everyone that affects her as well," he said.

Edmontons run brought in more than $1.7 million. Organizers hope to raise at least $30 million across the country.
