An investigation is underway into an oil spill in northwestern Alberta.

The Energy Resources Conservation Board says theleak of oil and waterhappened last Saturday at a Pace Oil and Gas injection well site about 20 kilometres southeast of Rainbow Lake.

"We have captured approximately 11 per cent," said Todd Brown, chief executive officer of the Calgary-based company. "So we've estimated the spill at 3,500 cubic meters of oil and emulsion and we've recovered about 400 cubic meters to date."

One dead duck was found at the scene but no other wildlife are known to have been affected.

The company expects clean up efforts will restore the area to its natural state.

The board says its working with the company to make sure all mitigation measures are taking place.
