2 men shot during separate west Edmonton home invasions

Edmonton police are investigating after two men were shot during a pair of home invasions, which took place a few minutes apart early Monday morning.

Police said the first home invasiontook place just before 6 a.m. in the area of104th Avenue and 149th Street.

A man was shot and is in critical condition in hospital, police said in a brief statement issued this morning.

The second home invasion took place about twokilometres awayin the area of102nd Avenue and 163rd Street, in the Britannia Youngstown neighbourhood.

A man was also shot at the second addressand was taken to hospital in serious condition,police said.

In both instances, the men were shot by suspects who were breaking into the homes, said police spokespersonPatrycjaMokrzanin an email to CBC News.

It's "very possible" that the shootings were connected but that remains under investigation,Mokrzan said.

Third shooting not connected, police say

Police also responded to a weapon's complaint around 8:40 a.m. Monday in the Graydon Hill neighbourhood in southwest Edmonton. The service had received several 911 calls about a possible shooting.

Officers found a 27-year-old man on the ground with serious, non-life-threatening injuries, police spokesperson Scott Pattison said. He was treated and taken to hospital with what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

Police were told three men wearing face masks fled the scene in a black sedan. The car was found abandoned and on fire on Howes Crescent.

Investigators believe the shooting was targeted and that there is no imminent danger to the surrounding neighbourhood.

"Police do not believe the Graydon Hill Pt. shooting is connected to the two home invasion and shooting that occurred earlier [Monday]," Pattison said.
