Commuters looking forward to the reopening of Groat Road this week will be waiting a little bit longer.

The city announced that the section of the road from 107th Avenue to River Valley Road will now remain closed alldayMonday.

The route was closed early Friday morning to allow the city to lift and place girders for the 102nd Avenue bridge, which is being re-constructed.

Matt Boiko, the city's general supervisor of special projects, said work was slowed down because some of the girders began to shift after being placed and needed more time to stabilize. Workers also had to deal with high winds, which delayedworkfurther.

"I wish I knew what Mother Nature would do on any given day, but that's the part that is always unknown for us," Boikosaid.

Groat Road, which serves as a main routeinto the citys river valley, will reopen Tuesday at 6 a.m. But the city warns it will continueto be closed at night, between 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m., until Saturday.

Drivers are encouraged to take Victoria Park Road, 149th Street and 109th Street as alternate routes.
