Asem Al-Daboubi says Ozzi, his pet parrot, was taken from in front of his house on Monday.

Charges are pending against a 15-year-old boy after a pet parrot was stolen and killed in Slave Lake, Alta., RCMP announced on Wednesday.

The arrest was made after Ozzi,an African Grey Parrot, was taken from the yard of a Slave Lake home on Monday.

OwnerAsem Al-Daboubifound Ozzi's empty cage in the bush 20 minutes from his home two days later.

He found the birds body on the ground nearby. She had cuts on her chest and back and bruises to her head.

I just lost it. I just, you know, started crying, Al-Daboubi said of finding Ozzis body.

Ozzi was 10 years old when she was killed, but African parrots can live up to 70 years. Al-Daboubihad the bird since it was just months old. Hesaid Ozzi danced, sang and could speak in both English and Arabic.

Somebody killed my baby, somebody killed my kid. It's my kid. I have no kids. Married for 16 years but have no kids. This bird is my kid.

Condolences have been pouring in over Facebook.
