Edmontonians climbin' the walls at the University of Alberta

Edmontoniansare pouring into the University of Albertas $60-million fitness complex.

Weve seen more than 3,000 users a day in the first six months, says Cheryl Harwardt, director of operations at the Physical Activity and Wellness Centre.

The 111,000-sq.ft. facility at the prominent campus corner of 87th Avenue and 114th Street features a new 25-metre climbing wall, fitness centre, sports research and lab facilities.

The planning and construction started five years ago.

The PAW Centre is a financial partnership between the Students Union, Graduate Students Association, Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation, University of Alberta and Government of Alberta.

University staff and government dignitaries are gathering on March 20 to dedicate the building.
