Dangerous driving in school zones a problem, police say

Edmonton Police are warning parents and guardians that dangerous driving near school zones is becoming a problem.

Police monitored nine school overthree weeks and found over 800 traffic infractions, including everything from failing to stop for a pedestrian to disobeying traffic signals.

But, police add that many of these problems stem from pedestrians as well, who often jaywalk.

Even through the little shortcuts that were taking, the little liberties that we take at the school every day just to make out next appointment, that were actually putting lives at risk and putting the children at risk by doing so, said Const. Andre Paul.

Police will now be doing more enforcement in those areas, with some fines being given upwards of $587 for infractions in school zones.
