Fifteen-year-old boy faces second-degree murder charge in death of Grade 10 student

A Calgary youth has been charged in the death of a Grade 10 student in the city's northwest.

A 15-year-old boy has been charged following the death of a Grade 10 student in the city's northwest.

A search warrant was executed at a Calgary home Tuesdayand a male youth was taken into custody. The teenager, who has been charged with second-degree murder, cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act and will appear in court Thursday.

Last week, emergency responders were called toa green space in Arbour Lakewhere theyfounda teenager whohad beenshot.Thatpersonwas later identifiedto be Jal Acor Jal, 16.

Jal's family has described him as a talented athlete. They saidhe was abright and vibrant teenagerwho was hoping to move to the United States to pursue basketball after graduating high school.

Jal was one of three homicides last week.
