Calgary Entertainment: 8 things to do this warm November weekend

The forecast in the Calgary area is pretty nice this weekend one might even call it a bit of a heat wave.

CBCHomestretch director Tracy Fuller has cool ideas to enjoy with the unseasonal warmth.

1.Barney Bentall and the Cariboo Express

It's part variety show, part fundraiserand a ton of fun. Alberta artists includingMatt Masters, Kendal Carson andKirby Barber will be on hand for this cabaret, just to name a few.

These artists have a charitable side too. Over the past 10 years, the Cariboo Express has raised more than $500,000 for local charities, including the Mustard Seed Food Bank and Habitat for Humanity.

2.BEA by Mick Gordon

Calgary's SAGE Theatre Company is kicking off its season Thursday nightby testing the limits of compassion.

BEA is a play about a young woman who has been bedridden for eight years,and all she wants now is to die.

SAGE's artistic director Jason Mehmel says an undercurrent of assisted dying flows throughout the play. As serious as it sounds, this play does getsilly at times.

Still, it's one that will stay with you long after the lights come up.

3.Sunshine Village is open!

Local ski season off to early start as Sunshine Village marks earliest opening in 30 years

More than 3,000 people showed up within two hours of opening Thursday, eager to hit the slopes.

The folks out there are very proud to say they're the first resort in Canada to open its doors to ski and snowboard enthusiasts this season.

It's Sunshine's earliest opening in more than 30 years. Four chairlifts are running: WaWa, Strawberry Express, Jack Rabbit and Wolverine. The base is more than 69 cm of all-natural snow, so get out there and enjoy if you can.

Opening days at other area hills aren't far behind, Lake Louiseis set to open Nov. 10 and Nakiska and Marmot Basin on Nov. 11.

4.Golf, no seriously

Believe it or not there are a few courses around Calgary that are still open, and if you already have a tee time booked, you are good to go.

If you don't, however, it could be tricky. The word on the street is all available tee times are booked but you could try for a cancellation.

5.University of Calgary's Olympic Oval

Canada's short track team is aiming to collect a minimum of eight individual medals this weekend at the Olympic Oval.

All the stars you remember from Sochi will be there Friday through Sunday, plus it's a beautiful venue to walk around this time of year.

When: Runs Friday through Sunday, tickets are $25 for adults and $12.50 for children.

6.Intersite Visual Arts Festival

Thisfree contemporary arts festival is presented at locations and venues all across the city.

It aims to actively engage the public through exhibitions, workshops, performances and screenings outsidetraditional art galleries.

Locations include the main foyer of Studio Bell, city hall, downtown C-Train platforms and even the Memorial Park Library.

It's set up to allow for people to walk from one exhibition to another, maybe grabbing a coffee or treat along the way.

When:Festival runs through Saturday and it's all free.

7.Deceptive Cadence: Music for the 2016 US Election

This Monday event doesn't technically fall on the weekend, but it's still worth a mention.

Calgary's newest music ensemble, Alta Nova, is a bunch of ridiculously talented classical contemporary musicians who are bridging the divide between Rossini and Radiohead.

Some of them are part of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. On Monday they'll perform at Theatre Junction Grand in a pre-election spectacular. There's going to be a Trump piata called "The Donald."

8.Fresh Art & Music Show at St. Stephen's Anglican Church

This Saturday night is not alright for fighting, because LimeLighter is presenting an amazing event that is part art show, part craft fair and part concert.

Mix and mingle, talk with the artists, listen to some fabulous live music and enjoy a great night out.

Performersinclude Calgary's own Joanna Borromeo and CBC Searchlight top 10 regional finalist Jake Vance.
