WestJet employee charged with fraudulently issuing $250K in travel credits

Police in Calgary have have arrested a WestJet employee they say fraudulently issued more than $250,000 in company travel credits.

Police in Calgary have have arrested aWestJet employee they say fraudulently issued more than $250,000 in company travel credits.

The 43-year-old man was charged on Tuesday with fraud and theft over $5,000, following a joint investigationinvolving the theAlberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) and WestJetcorporate security.

Police allege the man issued the credits, which were then bought and sold by a third party,between2012 and 2015.

No WestJet customers are believed to have been defrauded.

The investigation was referred to ALERT last July after WestJet conducted its own internal investigation intothe matter.
