A 69-year-old manhas died after a shooting insidea Walmart in Red Deer, Alta., on Friday, according to the RCMP.

RCMP Const. Shelley Nasheimcould not confirm if there was one or multiple shooters, but said two vehicles were involved.

"We don't know where they went," she said.

Preliminary information suggeststhat the shooting in the front entrance of the store was targeted, according to RCMP.

No one else is reported to have been injured at this time, according to Nashiem.

"The area is contained and it is no longer an active scene," she said."We'll be using video surveillance and witnesses."

Nashiempushed back against rumours circulating on social media that multiple victims had been injured.

"We can confirm there are not multiple victims,"she said.

ShirleyMcCoy, who works at the pharmacy at the Walmart, said the intercom system alerted those inside that the store was on lockdownaround 6:30 p.m.

Staff at the location completed an active shooter drill a month ago, McCoy said, but she said she never thought anything wouldhappen in a place like Red Deer.

"It's scary. Honestly. What would have stopped him from shooting in the store?" she said. "You go to work thinking everything's fine. I had just went on supper and just came back [before the shooting]. What if?"

McCoy was allowed to leave the store after being locked down for about four hours.

"They gave us a lockdown until the situation was safe. We weren't able to remove our cars or anything," she said. "We had to stay until the investigators came from Edmonton. Then, they bused us or cabbed us [home]."

RCMPare expected to remain on the scene throughout the night as the investigation continues.
