Trican suspends Medicine Hat operations, lays off 100 employees

Trican has suspended operations at its Medicine Hat base and laid off 100 people.

Trican has suspended operations at its Medicine Hat base and laid off 100 people.

A small core is still employed in the southern Alberta city, but as of now Trican will not be offering field pumping services in the Medicine Hat region, said Rob Cox, vice president ofTrican'sCanadian operations.

"These were very good people who did a very good job but there is just no significant workleft for them in this area," Cox told CBC News.

Cox says the work has been disappearing over the past year and they don't expect it to return for several years.

The Calgary-based company laid off 2,000 workers last year.
