Weather watches, warnings come and go across Alberta Thursday

Environment Canada issued severe thunderstorm warnings and watches for almost every section of Alberta on Thursday, but many were lifted or adjusted as the afternoon progressed.

Almost every region of the province was covered by Environment Canada advisory

Environment Canada issued severe thunderstorm warnings and watches for almost every section of Alberta on Thursday, but many were lifted or adjusted as the afternoon progressed.

Calgary was under a warning along with a whole swatch of the central and southern parts of the province but by early evening many of the warnings were downgraded to watches.

The string of warnings stretchedfromWestlock-Barrhead-Athabasca in the north toCardston-Fort Macleod-Magrathin the south.

At 2:55 p.mEnvironment Canada saidmeteorologists weretracking a long line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to toonie-sized hail and heavy rain.

Included in that stretchof severe weather were several stormsmoving eastwardat 35 km/h from southern Calgary to Crossfield, the agency said.

Hail was reported in parts of south Calgary.
