Street prostitution crackdown nets dozens of charges

A crackdown on the sex trade last week by Calgary police resulted in dozens of charges being laid, officials say.

Operation by vice unit targeted downtown and southeast Calgary

A crackdown on the sex tradelast week by Calgary police resulted in dozens of charges being laid, officials say.

The operation, conducted in conjunction with the vice unit, focused on street-level prostitution downtown and in the southeast part of the city.

In all 24 criminal charges were laid and 17 summonses were issued against sex trade workers and alleged offenders.

"The CPS continues to conduct regular enforcement targeting street-level prostitution in our communities," police said in a release.
