Flood-damaged Elbow Park school could take 2 years to fix

It could be two years before students of Elbow Park Elementary School can return to the flood-damaged historic building, Calgary Board of Education officials say.

Parents were given the news at a public meeting on Tuesday night that was closed to the media.

Last week, officials said the school suffered extensive structural damagewith its central portion cracking away from its two wings.

In the meantime, students from the circa-1926 Sifton Boulevard school will be moved to nearby Earl Grey School on Hillcrest Avenue southwest.

There was better news for parents of children who go to Rideau Park School, which was also damaged in last months flood.

The CBE expects that building will be open in time for classes in September.
