The family of a Russian man attacked at the Calgary Remand Centre plans to sue.

The sister of a man badly beaten at the Calgary Remand Centre says the family will launch a lawsuit against the remand centre.

Elena Romanova says her brother, Denis Telyakov, is still feeling the effects of severe brain injuries four months after he was attacked by two inmates.

"It's totally not his fault what happened to him. It's just negligencethere in the remand centre. I will never ever be able to cover the bills," said Romanova.

Telyakov, 24,was in Calgary to study but in August he was held in the remand centre on charges of uttering threats.

Those charges were later dropped, which means the family has to cover his medical expenses.

Telyakov now uses a walker and he will require years of rehabilitation.

Doctors have told the family he may never fully recover.
