Heavy snow is coming to blanket Alberta this weekend

Though recent weather has proved a welcome respite from colder temperatures, Environment Canada is warning that will soon come to an end.

Though recent weather has proved a welcome respite from colder temperatures, Environment Canada is warning that will soon come to an end.

The agency issued snowfall warnings on Saturday for Calgary, as well as multiple other areas of southern Alberta including Banff, Canmore, Okotoks, Brooks, Strathmore and more.

Calgary will see total amounts of 10 to 20 centimetres this weekend, with most areas seeing 10 centimetres overnight.

Environment Canada said warmer temperatures are also expected to fall throughout Saturday as a strong cold front moves through the area.

Roads are expected to be impacted from the snow, and the agency cautioned drivers heading out onto the highway.

Drivers should take frequent breaks and make an emergency plan, complete with emergency kit, should circumstances necessitateits use.

Snow has already reached much of the province, including in Edmonton, which is also seeing a snowfall warning.
