Vehicles stranded by 30-metre sink depression at Crowfoot LRT safely removed by city

Vehicles stranded for more than 24 hours in a cordoned-off section of the Crowfoot LRT station parking lot due to an apparent sink depression have been safely removed.

The city was tipped off to the growing depression Wednesday by a customer complaining about a tripping hazard in the short-termparking lot on the north side of CrowchildTrail.

Sherri Zickefoose, spokesperson for the City of Calgary, told CBC News Thursday that the impacted car owners were "very understanding."

She said the city is still investigating underground in the northwest parking lotto determine the root cause.

In the interim, Zickefoose said the city has installed some more permanentbarriers.

"To keep customers safely away from the area," she said.

Zickefoose addedthe wheelchair ramp is accessible and there are four handicapped parking stalls still available.

"It's business as usual, except the short-term four-hour parking spots are blocked off temporarily," she said.

There is still no word on when they will be excavating the surface, but Zickefoose said it could be as early as next week.
