What should Sikome Lake look like in the future?

The province wants ideas on upgrades and improvements to Sikome Lake, a popular southeast Calgary swimming hole opened in the late 1970s.

It's time to imagine what the facility and visitor experience could be in the future at the artificial lake in Fish Creek Provincial Park, said Don Carruthers Den Hoed, East Kananaskis area manager with Alberta Parks.

"We are looking at it even from an economic feasibility point of view. If it's closed half the year, is there an option for year-round programming?We're looking at are there different recreational activities that could be offered at Sikome that we've never thought of before," he said.

There will be an open house at Sikomenext Saturday. In the meantime, idea boards will be available by the beach and entrances andan online survey will be open for the next three weeks.

"I can't think of a time when they've taken that step back and really looked at it since Sikome was created," he said.

Recent changes include new sand, swimming lessons on offer, and a retail store selling beach towels, sunscreen and waterproof diapers.
