Sherman re-elected as Alberta Liberal leader in landslide

After barely surviving the last provincial election, the Alberta Liberals have voted overwhelming in favour of keeping their leader, Raj Sherman.

At the Liberals annual general meeting, 94 per cent of the members said they don't want to hold another leadership race. The meeting has held in Calgary on Saturday.

The party took a beating in the March election, losing three seats and its status as the official opposition.

However, party members say Sherman is a dedicated leader and are happy to keep him as head of the party as they regroup.

Former leader and current MLA David Swann said this provides a huge boost for not only his party, but also for all of Alberta.

"I think we're going forward with a very strong mandate for the people of Albertachange for an opportunity for real, responsible, hard-working, environmentally conscious government in the next election, and I think many Albertans are looking just for that," Swann said.

The vote means Sherman will remain leader of the Alberta Liberal Party for at least another four years.
