Robson Gmoser, 45, identified as avalanche victim in Golden, B.C.

Robson Gmoser, 45, of Canmore has been identified as the victim of an avalanche atSorcererLodge in the Selkirk Mountains near Golden, B.C.

The B.C. Coroners Service released Gmoser's name on Thursday afternoon. The longtime ski guide was killed in an avalanche lateTuesday afternoon.

Gmoser was working as a guide at Sorcerer Lodge in the Selkirk Mountains, said lodge owner Tannis Dakin. He was just 400 metres from the lodge when he was struck by a slab avalanche. He was buried for about 30 minutes andrescuers were unable to revive him, according to Dakin.

Gmoser had just dropped off his group and was doing some scouting at the time for atour the next day.

"Our hearts go out to the family of our friend, and we will do all we can to support them at this very difficult time," said Dakin.

Gmoserwasthe son of Hans Gmoser, the man who pioneeredheli-skiing in Canada.
