Road rage and traffic pet peeves: Calgarians rant

There's nothing like driving to get Canadians whipped up into a frenzy, and our listeners are no different.

Listeners share what drives them crazy behind the wheel in response to study

According to a recent survey of Canadian driving habits, 7 per cent cite pets on the laps of drivers as a pet peeve. Driving pets didn't make the list.

Tailgating. Distracted driving. Cutting people off. Taking up two parking spots. Is your blood boiling yet?

There's nothing like driving to get Canadians whipped up into a frenzy, with a recent State Farm study saying 33 per cent of Canadians are victims of road rage at least once a month.

So what did the study find are the biggest pet peeves of Canadian drivers?

  • Tailgating 30 per cent.
  • Distracted driving 22 per cent.
  • Cutting people off 22 per cent.
  • Taking up two parking spots 11 per cent.
  • Driving with pets on lap sevenper cent.
  • Other sevenper cent.

Those responding to the study are mostly a serene bunch, with 46 per cent claiming they stay calm and let it slide when dealing with the driving habits of others, although some did admit to using colourful language and gestures when that jerk cuts you off, oh my God, did you just see what that guy did!?

Needless to say, our Homestretch listeners had a few things to get off their chest after hearing about the findings, listing off a litany of their own pet peeves, including merging lots of merging left turns, cutting people off and so much more.
