Pair in stolen car hit 2 vehicles while fleeing Red Deer checkstop

Police in Red Deer, Alta., tracked down and charged two suspects after a couple in a stolen car hit two vehicles as they fled from an RCMP checkstop.

Police in Red Deer, Alta., tracked down and charged two suspects after a couple in a stolen car hit two vehicles as they fled from an RCMP checkstop.

Officers were checking for impaired drivers on Dec. 3 at 9:30 p.m. near the67thStreet bridge when a NissanSentraevaded the stop, hitting a Toyota Rav 4 as it drove away, RCMP say.

TheSentrahit a parked car-hauler trailer before a man and a woman got out and ran.

A police dog helped officers track the pair to the Aladdin Hotel, where they were arrested.

The car they were in had been reported stolen two days earlier.

The suspects were taken to hospital to be checked for injuries from the collisions. The man was kept in hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The 35-year-old driver of the Toyota that was hit was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 31-year-old man from Red Deer faces several charges, including obstruction, failing to remain at the scene of a collision, dangerous driving causing bodily harm and possession of stolen property.

The 44-year-old woman who was with him faces charges of failing to remain at the scene of a collision and failing to comply with a recognizance.

Police have not yet released the names of the suspects.
