Prabhdeep Gill gets nod from PCs for Calgary-Greenway byelection, again

Prabhdeep Gill will represent the Alberta Progressive Conservative party in the March 22 Calgary-Greenway byelection after receiving the most votes at a nomination meeting Saturday.

"I feel great," Gill told CBC News.

"I think it was a great day for PC party and I am looking forward to going back to work tomorrow and start for the campaign."

Interim party leader Ric McIver hadappointed Gill Wednesday but was forced to do an about-face after party members objected, including some running against Gill for the nomination.

"One of the big lessons from our May 5, 2015 general election loss is that the public must be respected and listened to, and that we must admit when we've made a mistake," McIver said in a Facebook post.

"This is a day where those lessons have come home to roost."

Gill says it's not about targeting candidates put up by the other parties.

"It is not even about beating or not beating, my biggest aim is to, as we all know, the seat belonged to Mr. Manmeet Bhullar and my job would be to carry on his legacy, that's it."

Bhullar died on a highway late last year trying to help a fellow motorist.

Gill will face off againstRoop Rai with the NDP,Khalil Karbanirepresenting the Liberals,Devinder Toor of the Wildrose party andThana Boonlert for the Greens.

The Alberta Party isstill looking for a candidate.

Voters head to the polls March 22.
