He also worked with the Calgary Homeless Foundation, arranging housing for some of the veterans.

The Calgary Police Commission presented Langford with the award for his service Wednesday night at the Glenmore Inn.

Langford accepted his award via Skype from Afghanistan, where he is on an international peace mission.

"What I sincerely hope you can take away from this evening is the knowledge that it's not always easy to fit back into society for some of those men and women in uniform, especially when they've given so much of themselves to make the world a better place," Langford said.

Langford is expected to return to Calgary in September.
