Calgary police are asking for witnesses to come forward as they investigate two recent pedestrian collisions, one of which resulted in a man's death.

On Tuesday night, at about 9 p.m., a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in the intersection of 17th Avenue and 42nd Street S.E., police said in a release on Wednesday.

A man in his 30s was crossing the avenue in the west crosswalk when he was hit by an eastbound Toyota Prius.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital in serious, life-threatening condition.

"At this time, investigators believe the pedestrian was crossing against the light and alcohol may have been a factor," the release said.

The driver stayed at the scene and neither alcohol, drugs nor excessive speed are believed to have been factors on his part.

Investigators want to speak with anyone who might have witnessed the collision. Potential witnesses can call the traffic section at 403-567-4000, or the police non-emergency number at 403-266-1234, or contact Crime Stoppers to provide information anonymously.
