A northeast Calgary councillor says people in his ward are concerned over the number of shootings in the area, despite the fact police have said the attacks are targeted.

"At some point in time, we know that there's going to be a random bullet and it's going to hit an innocent bystander," said RayJones, councillor for Ward 5.

"And people that have been phoning me have been asking 'what is it that the city of Calgary can do about it?And how can we warn our residents?'"

Mayor Naheed Nenshi says he's been briefed by the police on the recent spate of shootings, which are related to a specific investigation.

He says the situation makes him very nervous, but the police tell him there will soon be an end to this investigation.

"I'm very very confident that the police service knows exactly what they're doing and we should see an end to this soon."
