Two neo-Nazis accused of killing a Calgary man last October are not allowed to talk to each other while in custody, a judge says.

Robert David Reitmeier, 24 and Tyler William Sturrup, 26, are charged with second-degree murder in the death of 47-year-old Mark Mariani.

At the pair's first court appearance on Wednesday a judge granted the Crown lawyer a no-contact order between the accused.

Mariani was found dead on the morning of Oct. 3, 2010. He was beaten in an alley behind a strip mall at the corner of 16th Avenue and 15th Street N.W. before collapsing at his car in a parking lot.

Police confirmed both men are connected to neo-Nazi groups. But they said they don't believe it was a motive for the crime, which they said was random.

Reitmeier and Sturrup are back in court on June 29.
