Nirmala Naidoo leaves CBC Calgary

Longtime Calgary broadcaster Nirmala Naidoo has left the CBC.

Longtime Calgary broadcaster Nirmala Naidoo has left the CBC.

The award-winning journalist joined the public broadcaster in 2009 as the anchor of the CBC NewsCalgary supper-hour show.

In an email to staff this morning, managing director Al Thorgeirson said Naidoo had "indicated her desire to move on from CBC Calgary to pursue newopportunities."

"We thankNirmala for her commitment toCBC News Calgaryfor the time she was in the host's chair," wrote Thorgeirson in a public statement.

Naidoo has worked as a journalist for two decades, covering a variety of stories including the Gulf War, British Elections and IRA bombings.

Naidoo also worked as a journalist for CBC Television in Regina, Sask.

"We will continue our unwavering commitment to local television news as we search for a new host," wrote Thorgeirson.
