The city is hiring a new manager in its transportation department and you should know how to ride a bike if you want the job.

The cycling coordinator will oversee the implementation of Calgary'snew cycling strategy.

"Must be able to ride a bicycle or be willing to learn," the job posting says.

It's a position several other cities have created in their efforts to become more bike-friendly.

Azim Jivraj, the citys manager of transportation solutions, said big changes are coming in the next decade.

"We certainly felt a need for a program manager, which is a cycling coordinator, because we are looking at [expanding], for example our infrastructure ... from the existing 20 kilometres of bike lanes in the city to about 180 in the next ten years," he said.

One of the strategy's goals is to double the number of Calgarians who commute by bike into the core by 2020.

The job pays from $70,000 to $106,000 per year.
