Daughter of slain Lethbridge senior Irene Carter pleads for tips to help solve murder

The LethbridgePolice Service hopes a news conference with an emotional plea from Irene Carter's daughter will garner tips about why the 78-year-oldsenior was stabbed to death at her home in January.

Lisa Freihaut, who lives in Calgary, asked for help in solving the her mother's killing.

"This is the first time I don't get to send my mom flowers or give her a card on Mother's Day," shesaid at a police news conference in Calgary on Thursday. "We miss you.

"We are reaching out to the public for help. If you have any information about what happened to my mom please contact the Lethbridge police services so they can put my mom to rest peacefully, and we can start to heal."

Police first responded to Carter's home in the 300 block of Normandy Road Southshortly after 2 p.m. on Jan. 18 after family members who were unable to reach her on the phone went to the house and discovered her body.

Sgt. Ryan Stefof the Lethbridgepolice says the news conference was held in Calgary because it was easier for the family who live there.

He also says since Calgary is a large city, police are looking for "anybody that may be aware ofa company, a business people that may have been in Lethbridge at that time."

"They could potentially be witnesses for us," said Stef.

Stef says police have a lot of evidenceand have interviewed a number of witnesses, but have no further leads.

He says they have not ruled out the stabbing might have been motivated by a robbery.
