Lotto 6/49 prize worth $1M goes to Calgary couple

A Calgary couple wasted no time in cashing in their $1-million lottery ticket after finding they had matched all the winning numbers.

Su Hoinessaid she couldn't believe itwhen she checked herLotto 6/49 ticket and had to wake up her husband JohnLafreniere to double-check that the numbers were correct.

"I looked at the ticket and compared the numbers," Lafreniere said in a statement."All I could say was, 'It looks good, but I don't know.'"

The couple took the ticket to theCalgary lottery office the next day to confirm it was a winner.

"I walked in and said to the receptionist, 'Please don't let me be dreaming!'" said Hoines. "We weren't! We won $1 million!"

Plans for the winnings

The couple has put some of the winnings into savings for their grandchildren. While Lafrenieredoesn't plan to quit his job just yet, the family does havesome travel in mind.

"My first big plan is to take my mom and sister to New Brunswick for a vacation," Hoines said. "We've been talking about doing it for a while, but now we're just going to do it."
