Bat-wielding man assaults 12-year-old boy in Lethbridge, police say

Investigators say the boy was walking to school when he was approached by a man holding a baseball bat and yelling at him in an aggressive fashion.

Police are looking for the culprit behind a morning assault that left a 12-year-old boy with minor injuries and a smashed phone in Lethbridge, Alta.

Officersresponded around 7 a.m. on Monday to a report that a young male had been assaulted by a man in the 1100 block of Glacier DriveSouth.

Investigators say the boy was walking to school when he was approached by a man holding a baseball bat and yelling at him in an aggressive fashion.

A foot chase followed, according to police, with the boy being pushed to the ground and his cellphone smashed. The boy suffered minor injuries from the assault.

Police are looking for a man aged 20-30with a thin build. Hemay have been wearing a dark-coloured hoodie and a hat at the time of the assault.

Lethbridge is about 220 kilometres southeast of Calgary.
